Phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties of the KCl, NaCl, KNO2 and NaNO2 system

Potassium nitrite is very sensitive to temperature, humidity and atmosphere, few studies have been made in this field for thermodynamic study of molten salt with nitrite salt. In this paper, phase diagrams of NaCl-NaNO2, KCl-KNO2 and NaNO2-KNO2 are calculated by a simple ‘hard-sphere’ ionic interaction model. Referring to the phase equilibrium data and experimental thermo-chemical properties of molten salt systems, the activities of these binary systems are studied by phase diagram and the analytical integration of the classical Gibbs-Duhem equation. The calculations based on the obtained descriptions show good agreement with experimental phase diagrams and thermodynamic values.
